How it works
If you are a resident of Ontario County, NY you can contact us to make an appointment to pick up typically a 5-day supply of food for you and your household. If you are new to us the volunteer will ask several general questions about family size, income, name and address. We will also ask you to confirm what facilities you have available for food storage and preparation; small or regular refrigerator, microwave and/or cooktop, oven and so on. The volunteer will schedule an appointment date/time for you during our regular open hours.
We provide designated appointment times to enable our clients to plan their visits, arrange transportation and to minimize wait-times before shopping. We get it…sometimes things change, or stuff happens which prevents a client keeping their appointment time. All we ask it that clients call to cancel or reschedule as soon as they know they cannot make their appointment.
Arrive
We will ask you for proof of home address and identity of household members. (only needed for new members after initial visit)
Generally, we will also set up a future appointment if needed. Depending on demand, next appointments are typically 3-4 weeks out.
Shop
A volunteer will assist you in selecting your 5-day food supplies, according to the number of household members. This will typically include a selection across the 5 food groups including fresh produce and dairy, canned or dry goods, bakery items and meats. We also supply hygiene items as needed.
Please Note: Remember to bring your re-usable shopping bags! Our selection changes all the time and so we may not have a specific item or brand available every visit.
Load up and Go
Once your selection is complete a volunteer will help load your vehicle at the rear dock.
No Show / No Call: When someone fails to keep an appointment, without calling to cancel or reschedule, we are unable to reassign that slot, and other people cannot get much-needed food. We reserve the right to suspend or permanently refuse to serve clients who routinely fail to show up for appointments.
